In the four corners area September 2008. These pictures are from a 27 day trip of which I was accompanied by Linus Tremaine & Nikkie for 2 weeks.
I wrote a journal for this trip but there are a lot of pictures that didn't fit into the journal, several of which are being posted here.
A dead tree in the shadows between red rocks in Arches National Park.
Give me a dead tree with interesting branches and an interesting background and I almost HAVE to take the picture.
There's a lot more to Arches National Park than their fantastic Arches.
On my Sept. 2008 trip I wanted to focus on the other scenic features.
When I look at rock formations like these I wonder if the Hoodoos at Bryce once looked like this earlier in their evolution.
When I see bluffs like these I wonder that John Ford didn't shoot movies here. I can just see John Wayne leading a troupe of calvary through here.
Most of the rock formations in Arches is monochromatic being the same kind of sandstone. But the bluffs higher up on the plateau show a layer of lighter coloured sand stone.
Below: Some rock wall formations also between the pueblos. I've always been fascinated by unusual rock shapes.
The folks from Rovers North came to the 2008 Land Rover national Rally in this Defender D110. We entered Arches National park at the same time and spent some time chatting in the park centre's parking lot. In the park we leap frogged one another between scenic stop parking areas and even passed on Arches off road trail going opposite directions. this is a leapfrog when I was out of my Land Rover with camera in hand.
There were a lot of pictures of the Anasazi ruins in Mesa Verde that did not fit in my on line journal. Here are some I didn't have space for.
